Eleven Healthy Puppies!!

We're pleased to announce the birth of 11 healthy puppies on Monday, August 26th! Gracie delivered her first puppy at 8:45 a.m. and puppy number 11 was born at about 7 p.m. . . . . a long day!! The first eight puppies were born with no problems and then there was almost a 4 hour break with no puppies - which caused some concern! After a trip to the vet, one puppy was born as we drove into the parking lot and then a quick x-ray showed two more puppies. After some medication to help give her energy and move the delivery process along, she quickly delivered the last two puppies without any problem. What a relief!

A Very Big Gracie - Ready for Puppies to Arrive!

As you can see, Gracie is looking VERY pregnant. Her approximate due date is next Tuesday, August 27 but we wouldn't be surprised if puppies would arrive sometime this weekend. When Gracie is sleeping (which is quite often!) we can see puppies kicking and moving around. So exciting! We'll be sure to post a message here once puppies arrive - stay tuned!

We're Expecting Puppies in August!

Welcome to our "Top of the Hill Labs" blog - an opportunity for us to share about life with our labs on our farm in Northwest Ohio. We are happy to be expecting a litter of Labrador Retriever Puppies yet this month from our chocolate labs - Gracie and Maverick. This will be our third litter of puppies from these two dogs and we'll expect a beautiful litter of chocolate and yellow puppies.

And now, to meet the parents . . .  Gracie is our 5 1/2 year old chocolate lab. She is expecting her fifth litter of puppies late in August. Gracie is a beautiful lab with a great temperament. She did an amazing job raising her first litters of puppies and we look forward to meeting her litter yet this summer!

The sire of this litter is our chocolate male, Maverick. Maverick is a 3 year old male with a very mellow temperament. He is a large dog with a thick, brown coat and a blocky head. We can't wait to see the pups we get from this litter.
